For parents who want generous, practical support for a memorable birth and postpartum.

Birthworker (doula) care across Leeds and Yorkshire.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and welcome to Power in Birth®!

I’m Magdalena. I am a birthworker (doula), and I’m all ears for how you want your birth to feel.

Perhaps, right now it might feel uncertain. You might be wondering how to navigate the maternity service appointments, care options, or the birth itself.

And of course, there’s the unknown journey of those early postpartum days with your new-born baby. The lack of certainty, considering all options and facing birth might feel a bit overwhelming.

If that’s how you’re feeling today, you’re in the right place.

My role as a birthworker is to prepare you well for the birth and postnatal time so that you can make your birth choices with clarity, confidence, and experience a comfortable, memorable birth and postpartum, as much as possible in your individual circumstances.

What happens when we work together for your baby’s birth?

Your birth is fundamentally about you and your baby.

I support you so that you’re comfortable and clear in making informed, self-empowered choices that are right for you and your baby.

Work with me to prepare your birth if:

  • you want a physiological birth with minimal interventions (of course that doesn't mean blanket declining everything-it simply means supporting physiology first, and if your circumstances change and you need to make a decision, you can make it from a place of calmness)

  • you’re preparing for a home birth

  • you want to give birth in a hospital but respect, dignity and bodily autonomy matter to you deeply.

Once we’ve decided to work together to support your birth, you’ll have me by your side throughout your pregnancy until at least 8 weeks postpartum.

We’ll plan in 4 antenatal sessions together to prepare your mind, body and heart for the incredible change you are about to go through. I’ll support you in the ways that feel best for you during the birth experience and offer meals and care to nurture you and your baby through those precious early days.

The in-person doula package is from £2500 (payment plans are available on request).

Your Doula Support Journey

We’ll talk about your birth wishes, your needs, and the kind of support you're looking for. This is a chance for us to get to know each other and decide whether we feel like the right fit.

2.We agree on working together

After our conversation, I’ll email you my doula care agreement so you can read everything carefully and ask any questions before committing. When you feel clear about the options, you’ll sign the agreement and pay a deposit, which reserves my calendar for your birth. We’ll then plan the dates of your antenatal sessions together.

3.We prepare for birth and beyond

We meet for at least three antenatal sessions, each lasting around three hours. These can be a combination of in-person and online meetings. Together, we’ll explore your preferences, care options, birth plan, and postpartum needs. I’ll guide you through practical and emotional preparation, including mindset, body awareness, comfort measures, supporting optimal baby positioning, the physiology of birth (what labour may look and feel like), and your pregnancy and birth rights. We’ll also talk through possible challenges. Discussing various scenarios can help you make decisions with clarity, and feel more calm and confident.

4.On call and Labour

I’m on call for your birth 24 hours a day, seven days a week from the agreed point, usually near your EDD. We’ll discuss in advance when you’d like me to join you, based on your individual needs.

When I arrive, I’ll stay with you throughout labour, for as long as possible, offering continuous emotional, physical, and practical support, usually until your baby is born.

5.Postnatal support

Depending on your preferences, postpartum support usually begins soon after your baby is born. I’ll help you settle, get comfortable, and supported. I’ll prepare a nourishing meal for you and create a calm space so you can rest with your baby.

We’ll meet at least three times during the postpartum period. During these visits, I can bring you a nutritious meal, help you settle into life with your baby, and support your environment with practical tasks—such as putting on a load of washing or doing some shopping—so you can focus on resting, recovering, and getting to know your baby.

Throughout the process, we work together. I bring experience, knowledge, and steady support; you bring your own wishes, values, and instincts.

Doula services FAQs:

Home birth transfer to hospital: I want a home birth but what happens if I change my mind? Will you stay with me at the hospital?

Yes, I will come with you to the hospital, even if you had originally planned to stay home throughout your labour.

As your doula, I support your choices without judgment. If your circumstances and preferences change, I will continue to offer emotional and practical support, help you feel calm, and support you in communicating your needs with staff during the transfer and once you arrive at hospital. While your birth plan might change, my support does not, because this is your moment and your baby’s.

What does doula support look like during labour?

The support I offer depends on your preferences and individual circumstances. I follow your preferences and adapt to how your labour unfolds. Typically, I work to support your physical comfort, positive birth environment, emotional support, safety and dignity:

  • I prepare snacks in advance and offer food and drinks throughout. If you would like, I diffuse aromatherapy oils to help create a calm and relaxing atmosphere. I offer light body massage, birth ball and rebozo techniques, drawing on my advanced biomechanics training, to support comfort, movement and optimal positioning for your baby.

  • If you choose to use a birth pool, I usually provide one as part of my doula service. When supporting your labour experience, I prepare the pool and offer practical support, adjusting the water temperature, checking your comfort and making changes where needed.

  • I use gentle somatic techniques to help you feel safe and grounded. These may also support your connection with your baby and instinctive movement and responses important in birth

  • If your circumstances change, I help you to stay grounded and signpost you to relevant information so you can make decisions from a place of calmness rather than panic

  • I also support your birth partner, if you have one, so they can remain relaxed and focus on practical tasks and also on supporting you

  • If you choose to have medical providers present, I support you in communicating your preferences and help maintain a respectful birth environment

  • When your baby arrives, I focus on supporting you to have uninterrupted time together during the golden hour and beyond, whenever possible
